Chaperone InfoSPSYC requires that each congregation group comes with at least one adult chaperone of at least 21 years of age. Due to the nature of our retreats we cannot accommodate unchaperoned youth. There must be a ratio of at least one adult for every 6 youth. Adult chaperones sleep in the cabins with their youth.
We know that it might be difficult to find the required balance of chaperones. Therefore we encourage you to visit the Sierra Pacific Youth Ministers Facebook page and connect with other youth leaders with whom you may be able to partner or make alternative arrangements. You may also want to contact congregations in your area to see if they might be attending the retreat and be interested in partnering with you. Our registrar may also be able to connect you with another group if you are unable to find a partner. For example: Hypothetical Lutheran Church (HLC) has 4 youth -- 3 girls and 1 boy with 1 female chaperone. Ideally, HLC would also send a male chaperone to be in the cabin with the boy. However, no male chaperone was available. HLC can then post on Facebook page and contact local congregations to find another group that has a male chaperone and partner with them. IF a partnership is unable to be found, then HLC can contact the registrar. |
Being an Adult AssistantThe ministry of SPSYC includes the support of adult assistants who mentor the youth leaders as they plan and implement retreats and build leadership skills. If you would like to be considered for an adult leader position please fill out the application found here or contact our Adult Co-Chairpersons with your questions.
